Day 5: Thank you for visiting California

Burney, CA ➡️ Lakeview, OR

Total Mileage: 144.1 Miles

Running Mileage: 11 Miles

Overall Running Mileage: 11 + 11 + 11 = 33

We crossed our first state line today! I was in the first van, so I ran the California section and drove through the Oregon portion. I learned that the part of Oregon we are going through is mostly forestry, especially pine trees like the ones we had been seeing in northern Cali. And we all experienced it when we didn’t have signal. We experienced more mountain climbs, as Lakeview calls itself “the tallest town in Oregon”. My running buddy, Seth, is a repeater from Team Baltimore last year. I got to hear about his experience the year prior, plus some horror stories of 2016’s Team New York. Let’s just say I hope my teammates won’t get to that level.

I went with Patty to ask for donations for the two vans. It ended up us refusing to take some food.

We got to the host, right as one of the volunteers Jim was pulling up. He gave us so much food, bless him. We had stacks of Clif bars and Lara Bars, bags of rice cakes, bagels, apples, bananas, oranges, the whole works. It was really generous of the Four Square Faith Church to give so much for us.

We checked out the Burns Geyser. It was magnificent, so large that it looked like a fountain in a pond.

When we returned, I joined in on watching “The Bachelorette” with some of the girls and Seth for funsies. As much as I love running, I also enjoy my time meeting others and getting to know them. Can’t wait to continue bonding with my teammates.
